Knockupworth Hall is a four star Grade 2 listed Georgian Manor House, conveniently situated for the city of Carlisle. The property has large gardens, secure private parking. and lock up facilites for bycyle's. We are conviently situated just on the western outskirts of Carlisle, in a quiet countryside setting. The property is least 260 years old, and was built before the rebelion of the Jacobites in 1746.
We are on the western side of Carlisle, quite close to the River Eden and the famous Hadrian’s Wall pathway. The tourist bus AD112 travels from the northeast to the northwest along Hadrian’s wall route, and stops outside our house, to collect passengers before going on to Bowness on Solway.
On Saturday March 13th 2010 there is to be a public event, which will be a sequence of illuminating the Roman wall, at dusk. starting at Segedunum Roman Fort at Wallsend, ending at Bowness on Solway. The line of light will reach Bowness on Solway about an hour later, As the light arrives in Carlisle it will be welcomed by thousands of flickering wax torches, led by musicians, bands, and a parade of costumed characters.
